Design for Manufacturing (DFM) is the process of working directly with Customers in the designing of parts, components or products for ease of manufacturing with an end goal of making a better product at a lower cost.

This is done by simplifying, optimizing and refining the product design.

Key DFM stages are:

Work with the Customer to reduce manufacture and assembly costs

Influencing the design definition in the early stages of a project

Utilises cross-functional knowledge and experiences for idea generation and action implementation
